MEDITATION FOR EVERYDAY LIVING
One Day Retreat

19 February 2012

In human life, if you feel that you have made a mistake, you don’t try to undo the past or the present, but you just accept where you are and work from there. Tremendous openness as to where you are is necessary. This also applies to the practice of meditation, for instance. A person should learn to meditate on the spot, in the given moment, rather than thinking, ‘When I reach retirement, I’m going to retire and receive a pension...and THEN I’m going to enjoy myself.  I’ll live a life of solitude and then I’ll really meditate..’  Things never happen that way.

  • Chögyam Trungpa
Meditation
We are living through an age of enormous change and instability. Time is precious and how we use it is vital. There are shifts and changes occurring on every level; in politics, the environment, weather, employment, relationships and health. One of the most fundamental teachings offered by the Buddha 2500 years ago is that ‘change is constant’. This indisputable truth of ‘impermanence’ is at the forefront of our awareness in current times and it is natural sometimes to feel anxious and disoriented. Our unchallenged thoughts and actions colour our experience of reality and this can add to our confusion and anxiety. The choices we make put in motion repetitive cycles of experience which define our life.

Opening to change, taking a stand, inviting inspiration and a broader vision requires a willingness to challenge current thinking and old modes of being.  It also requires a commitment to bring meditative awareness, mindfulness, to whatever you are doing at work, at home, in the midst of conflict or crisis. In this way your life becomes your practice. This is Meditation in the midst of everyday life. You do not need to escape to a quiet retreat in order to begin meditating.  There’s no need to wait until a better time. Begin now - right where you are!
In this meditation retreat you will;
  • Receive personal instruction on Mindfulness Meditation practices to develop focus and ease in your everyday life (beginners and seasoned meditators alike)
  • Set a clear intention for this mini retreat and your everyday meditation practice.
  • Learn and apply yoga breathing (pranayama) techniques to foster physical and mental ease
  • Challenge some of the personal thinking paradigms and emotions that keep us stuck
  • Relax a little and enjoy some quality time with yourself!

We spend a lot of time, energy and money on our physical health and appearance, but what of our mental and emotional health? Meditation improves emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing, and is simple and accessible. 'Meditation Practice' is designed by Michele. It is a 6-month course of weekly, emailed lessons that gives you techniques, guidance and support to establish a personal daily practice. The course is especially suited to those of us who have increasingly busy lives and find it hard to attend a group. It requires just 7 minutes of your time daily to practise - that's only seven out of the 1440 minutes of your day!

Previous participants had this to say about the course:

"I found this course to be well structured, friendly, kind and very profound. Quite magical really. I doubt if a better introduction to meditation can be found anywhere. Thanks." Anne

"Thank you for such a resourceful and informative course. I looked forward every Tuesday morning to opening my email. It was like unwrapping a gift, to see what was inside that would offer my next insight into discovering a new technique, new perspective, new knowledge and new awareness." John

"Thanks Michele. I have found the meditation course so helpful. Although the weekly meditations are simple and clear, the overall experience has had a profound effect on my everyday life... I'm sorry it is finishing next week!" Kylie
