ADVANCED YOGA STUDIES AND TEACHERS TRAININGCommencing September 2006“Yoga develops beauty, elegance and grace, power and strength, symmetry and balance”. Patanjali
The art and science of Yoga is a comprehensive system offering the means to physical, psychological and spiritual wellbeing. The classic ‘8 Limbs of Yoga’ described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali draw together physical postures, breathing techniques, contemplations and meditation to form the foundation of what we call ‘Yoga’. When practiced together they bring about significant positive change in our lives and are as applicable to living in today’s world as they were 5,000 years ago! Yoga is a way of living that offers practical skills and insights into how we can live with vibrancy, strength and balance.
About this course: The Advanced Yoga Studies and Yoga Teachers Training commences in September 2006 and is divided into two phases.
Advanced Yoga Studies:-Phase 1 This is a 6 month course, suitable for Yoga students at all levels of experience who would like to explore the depth and wisdom of the ancient system of Yoga to benefit their own personal lives. Advanced Yoga Studies incorporates an introduction to the study of subtle yogic physiology and energy fields, Anatomy, Meditation, Pranayama (breathing techniques), Asana (physical postures) and how to structure your personal yoga practice. This course will also offer an historical and philosophical framework which includes the “eight limbed path” or astanga yoga found in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Advanced Yoga Studies can be studied as an independent course with the purpose of living a healthier and more integrated life or as Phase 1 of the Yoga Teachers Training Course for those who wish to continue on to Phase 2 and receive accredited qualifications to teach.
Yoga Teachers Training Diploma:-Phase 2 (Advanced Yoga Studies is included in the ‘Teachers’ diploma and is also a prerequisite) This phase offers a firm foundation for committed students of Yoga who would like the accredited qualification to teach. In this training we go deeper into Yoga history, philosophy and physiology as well as Asana, Meditation, teaching skills and contemporary health practices. We also encourage and invite dialogue regarding a student’s right to view both the beneficial aspects of Yoga and those parts that may not sit well with one’s personal, religious, philosophical outlook. In this way the content of this course will be more applicable to ones’ own life and predicated on a tolerance of the various religious and philosophical outlooks of their own future students. The course meets the requirements for registration with the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia and is recognized nationally. Successful completion of this qualification requires significant commitment of time and energy. An interview prior to registration is required to discuss your circumstances and previous experience as a student of Yoga.
Time and ScheduleThe Advanced Yoga Studies and Teachers Training study programme takes into account the busy working and personal lives of the students. Each phase is structured so that there is a balance of attending one week night and one full Sunday for a six week period - with breaks between modules to assimilate and apply what is being learnt. Attendance at one weekend retreat during the 15month training period will provide an opportunity for intensive study, practice and application in a retreat environment. Attendance is mandatory for those completing the yoga Teachers Training. Course work in the form of assignments, reading and personal practice (journalled) will be completed in your own time and supported by mentoring with one of the Course facilitators.
